Barrel Nº2 12-Year-Old Single Cask whisky, distillery still life
The story

Twelve summers of Lowveld heat

On 21 July 2014 we filled a single cask of Limpopo Reserve single grain and left it to the Lowveld. It’s ready — the oldest whisky Qualito has released in twenty years of distilling. A single-grain single barrel, bottled by hand at cask strength (67.39%), every bottle numbered.

There are 257 of them, and there will not be another Barrel Nº2 — in fact it is the only 12-year-old whisky we have, and our next-oldest cask is still 2½ years from coming of age. When these are gone, there is no other Qualito 12-Year for years.

Why Nº2 costs what it costs

The top of a ladder we’ve climbed for twelve years

Where Barrel Nº2 sits in our own range
3-Year R470 · 5-Year R580 · 10-Year R1,440 · Barrel Nº2 — our first-ever 12-Year single cask — from R2,300

Our 10-Year already sells for around R2,400 in Europe. Barrel Nº2 is older, full cask strength (67.39%), from one cask, and hand-numbered at just 257 bottles. Single grain is a premium South African category — the same as Bain’s — and this is a single cask, at twelve years. At 500 ml and cask strength it carries about the same pure alcohol as a full 750 ml at 46.5% — the same whisky by the glass, we simply didn’t add water.
